Strategies for Business Owners to Enjoy the Holidays

Business Owners, Minimize Holiday Stress with These Tips

Owning a business means you work harder than anyone else. It means you always go the extra mile to achieve your business goals. That is one of the reasons why most business owners don't know what it's like to enjoy the holidays. Not allowing yourself to rest is counterproductive.

The holiday season is the busiest time of the year for most businesses, and that plus everything that needs to be done to wrap up the year can significantly increase stress. Despite all that, being a business owner does not mean you no longer get a chance to enjoy the most beautiful time of the year. Here are some tips that can help you have a more relaxing holiday season.

Plan to take a breakPlan to Take a Break

If you wait until the last few days before the holidays to decide whether or not you will take a break, chances are you will never take a break. That is the reality of many business owners. Don't let it be yours. Mark your calendar months in advance, and don't compromise your time off for anything.

Define Clear Expectations

If you want to be able to enjoy the holidays, setting expectations is a critical strategy. Notify people of your holiday hours and let people know which days you will be out of the office. Share the contact information of who they can reach while you're out and a number where people can reach you in case of an emergency.

Accept That There Will Be Pending Items on Your To-Do List

It's not always possible to finish the long list of things you have to do before the holidays catch up to you. It's ok, though. Make a list of priorities and make sure you tackle the things that definitely cannot wait, like running payroll, and things of that sort. Let go of the rest and come back in January —well-rested and full of energy— to take care of those things.

Yes, you're in charge, but because you're a business owner, you need to take some time off, too. Having that time to recharge your batteries will do your business right.
