5 Tips to Establish Attainable Goals That Help You Grow

It's hard to believe that a new year is just around the corner. Have you set your goals yet?

Every year starts with a load of promises or resolutions and most of those promises don't become any more than that. The problem with resolutions is that they are pretty much the same as a wish and a wish implies no action, but a goal does.

One of the keys to making things happen is to establish goals rather than write down resolutions that you're going to forget all about in a few weeks, anyway. Now, setting goals comes with its own set of considerations so that they actually stick. Defining attainable goals is essential. If you set the bar way too high for yourself, you'll have a hard time keeping up.

Keep Your Goals Realistic

Biting off more than you can chew is the perfect example of what not to do when setting goals. Drastic changes take time so instead of rushing yourself into completing a goal that is pretty much impossible in a given time frame, bring the bar a little lower and set yourself up for success.
5 Tips to Establish Attainable Goals That Help You Grow

Don't Overwhelm Yourself with Too Many Goals

It's good to have goals but having too many can be completely counterproductive. The one thing you do not want to do is spread yourself too thin. Keep your goals manageable.

Plan Around the Things You Can Control

Don't put all your focus and effort toward something you have no control over. You can only manage what you can control. This is how you ensure you can succeed.

Break Them into Smaller Goals

If you come up with one huge goal that requires a lot of time and effort, you might easily feel overwhelmed. Instead, think of setting up attainable milestones or subgoals that will keep you on track to achieving the ultimate goal.

Have a Support System

Surround yourself by people who trust and believe in you, whether it's coworkers, family or friends. Having someone you can share your accomplishments and struggles with, helps you keep going —particularly, if you have similar objectives.
